Frequently Asked Questions – KJ Designs
Welcome! I'm so glad you're here. Below you'll find answers to the questions I'm asked most often about my handmade home décor and textiles. If there's anything else you'd like to know, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Who is behind KJ Designs?
KJ Designs is just me, a solo maker creating original home décor and textiles from my studio. Every piece you see in my shop has been designed, printed, dyed, or stitched by my own hands. I pour genuine care into each item, and I love connecting directly with the people who bring my work into their homes.
What makes your products different from high street home décor?
My pieces are handmade in small batches, not mass-produced in a factory. I create original textile designs inspired by colour, texture, and pattern, and I hand-dye the backing fabrics myself, so no two items are ever exactly alike. You're getting something with real character and a story behind it, rather than an identical copy of thousands of others.
Are your products genuinely handmade?
Absolutely. I design, cut, sew, and finish every piece myself. The backing fabrics are hand-dyed by me, which means each one carries subtle, natural variations in colour and tone. Those small differences are part of what makes handmade work special; they're signs of human care, not flaws.
What materials do you use?
I work primarily with quality textiles suited to each product's purpose. My cushion fronts feature digitally printed original photography and artwork, while the backs are hand-dyed fabric. For my outdoor and garden cushions, I use water-resistant materials designed to handle the British weather. I'm always happy to share specific fabric details for any item if you drop me a message.
Will the colours look the same in person as they do on screen?
I photograph my products in natural light and do my best to represent colours accurately. That said, screens can vary, so there may be slight differences between what you see online and the finished piece. Because the backing fabrics are hand-dyed, each one also has its own unique tonal character, which adds to the individuality of your item.
Can I use your cushions outdoors?
Yes! I offer a range of water-resistant cushions specifically designed for outdoor use, perfect for garden benches, patios, or conservatories. These are clearly marked in my shop. I'd recommend bringing them inside during heavy or prolonged rain to keep them looking their best for as long as possible.
How long does delivery take?
Because each piece is handmade, please allow a little extra time for me to prepare your order. I'll always give you an estimated dispatch time at checkout, and I'll keep you updated if anything changes. UK orders typically arrive within a few working days of dispatch, and I ship internationally too, though delivery times will vary by destination.
Do you ship outside the UK?
I do! I'm always thrilled when my work finds a home overseas. International shipping costs and delivery times depend on the destination, and these will be calculated at checkout. If you have any questions about shipping to your country, just get in touch before ordering and I'll be happy to help.
What is your returns policy?
Because my products are handmade and often one of a kind, I ask that you read the product description and check measurements carefully before ordering. If something arrives damaged or isn't as described, please contact me straight away and I'll do everything I can to put it right. I want you to be completely happy with your purchase.
What inspired the heritage castle imagery in your designs?
I'm drawn to the textures, history, and atmosphere of heritage buildings, and I photograph them myself to capture those details. I then digitally print my original photography onto textiles, bringing a sense of heritage charm and timeless character into your home. Each design starts as a real moment I've experienced, which I think gives the finished piece a warmth you can feel.
